9 Hearty Casseroles

Some dishes taste like childhood, cozy evenings with the family, or tried-and-true favorites that always turn out well. Our oven-baked spaghetti with sausage is one such dish. Because with a flavorful combo of tomato sauce and sausage, you simply can’t go wrong. And the best part: You seriously cut back on time washing the dishes. Win!

How Our Oven-Baked Spaghetti with Sausage Is the Perfect Weeknight Dinner

Our oven-baked spaghetti with sausage is a simple oven dish that only requires one pan. Granted, it should be a stove-top and oven-safe pan, but still, nonetheless this recipe is doable with one such pan. This saves you time and effort, especially great after a long day at work.

The preparation couldn’t be easier: First, slice the sausages and fry them directly in your baking dish. This is best done on a gas stove. Otherwise, make sure you have a baking dish that is suitable for electric or induction stovetops. Alternatively, you can also use a skillet or cast-iron pan. Add chopped onions and garlic, and briefly sautée them together with the sausage.

Now, deglaze everything with chopped tomatoes, broth, and a little cream. This step guarantees your dish a particularly satisfying creamy consistency. Once properly deglazed, set your uncooked spaghetti directly into the sauce. It’s important that they are well covered with liquid so that the noodles cook evenly. If necessary, add a splash of water or broth to make sure your noodles are good and covered!

And then the whole thing goes into the oven. Let it simmer for about half an hour, but make sure to stir occasionally so that nothing burns. It’s this baking portion of the recipe that ensures your dish becomes incomparably and delightfully crispy. But, if you notice the dish drying out, add a splash of broth. Once the spaghetti is al dente, you’ll know the dish is ready. Sprinkle with some cheese if that’s what you’re into and/or garnish with fresh herbs before serving. Done! A quick, easy pasta dish for the whole family has been whipped up in record time!

Equipment

  • 1 9×13 in. stovetop & oven-safe dish

Ingredients

  • 4 sausages
  • 1 onion
  • 2 garlic cloves
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 can (14 oz.) diced tomatoes
  • 2 cups broth
  • ½ cup heavy cream
  • 1 tsp paprika
  • 1 tsp oregano
  • salt & pepper to taste
  • 10.5 oz spaghetti (about ⅔ of a standard 1 lb box)
  • 1 cup shredded cheese optional
  • some fresh herbs e.g., parsley or basil

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 400°F.
  • Slice the sausages. Peel and finely chop the onion and garlic.
  • Heat the olive oil in a large baking dish or skillet on the stovetop. Sauté the sausage slices for 2–3 minutes until lightly browned. Add the onions and garlic and sauté briefly until fragrant.
  • Pour in the diced tomatoes, broth, and heavy cream. Season with paprika, oregano, salt, and pepper. Stir well.
  • Place the uncooked spaghetti directly into the sauce and gently press it into the sauce so that it's completely covered. If necessary, add a splash more water.
  • Place the dish in the oven and bake for about 30 minutes. Give it a stir every 10 minutes so the spaghetti cooks evenly. If you notice your dish is drying out, add a water or broth judiciously.
  • Optionally, sprinkle the shredded cheese over the spaghetti and bake for another 5 minutes, or until the cheese is melted, golden, and bubbling.
  • Remove from the oven and garnish with chopped fresh herbs before serving.
